The only losses I’m really having are against Zergs which are ranked as plat and play with 300 apm. Now I came back after 1 year break and decided to give Terran a try and I’m after two weeks playing on platinum 1 and probably get into Diamond soon. And I started new in 2019 and got easily into Diamond with Zerg after just focusing on improving macro instead of trying to win with 6 rax cheese or some shit like that back in 2011 when I was just too ignorant to recognize what’s really important. And while I played only in silver back then which confirmed my bias I thought well fuck this I want to give it a try. I came to Starcraft 2 first time one year after it got release and thought “oh no, I’m late, they all know better than me and I will never catch up” now it’s 10 years later after release and the game is still being played. I can’t agree with this and I think it’s not a good mindset. It’s not like SC2 burned out in 2 years though, or even 5 it’s already old yet still strong, long after most games rest cold and still in their graves. Personally super into what’s been shown on SunSpear’s Immortal and SC2 will likely go 90% by the wayside for me once that’s out. So you tell me old, completely unsupported game, or new game(s) full of new ideas new blood and shiny toys and always getting more of those because it’s in active development and growth? There will be the die hards who never leave SC but I think most will happily make the shift if these new developers deliver.

Broodwar is proof that an SC game is built to last and has a fan base to match, but with both FrostGiant and SunSpear threatening to bring new rts games into the picture, ones directly inspired by Starcraft 2, I think sunset in upon us. Blizzard isn’t putting the effort in to draw new players or even to actively keep old players around. But in terms of trending, yes I think it’s on the way down. Game still alive, still good, and still fun, and likely will be for several more years.
